Americans for the Arts is a nonprofit organization that has been educating, installing, organizing, advocating and generally supporting the arts in America and every Americans right to art, for over 50 years!  They have been this country’s leading nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of the arts on both a local and state level.  You can get involved by visiting their site displaying states arts appropriations, find out how each state compares!

For example, by clicking on the state of Texas, you learn that Texas’ state legislative appropriation is just over 6.1 million dollars. You also find out that the Texas House has just passed an amendment to the budget eradicating all funding for the Texas Arts Commission in 2012.  Though the original proposal called to eliminate half of the budget, it was, in fact, Governor Rick Perry, himself that proposed the suspension of all funds in February of 2011.
